After having a chance to meet all of our new students and getting settled into our new schedule, we have adjusted our approach and curriculum for this fall.
Wu De
First off, the students have learned the team expectations and rules very quickly and we have moved on to wu du. Wu de Is the knowledge gained through experience as a martial artist. Right now we are learning about being daring through the story of Zhang Fei in the Battle of Chang Ban. Guarding his brothers rear as they evacuated 100,000 civilians, Zhang Fei positioned himself on a bridge and single handedly stopped Cao Caos cavalry from advancing. This story comes from a book based on historical events in China’s bronze age called Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
We will be continuing to learn about wu de through Romance of the Three Kingdoms and talking about relatable personal experiences.
Curriculum
Group 1- 3:30-4:30pm
We have a lot of new kids in group 1 so we have been coming back to our fundamentals. Based on the average skill level we are likely to be focused on basic self-defense and strikes, our teams three basic wushu drills and the first form for the next three months. Hopefully if group 1 can learn these well, we will be doing flips, lion dancing and sparring later this year.
Group 2- 4:30-5:30pm
Group 2 Is hitting the ground running. This month we are working on sparring fundamentals, forms, front tuck and back had springs. We are hoping to start lion dancing and fencing later this year.
Pick Up
As you know this year’s our first year dividing our afterschool program into two groups, the 3:30 class and the 4:30 class. It has been running very smoothly and we just want to remind everyone that if you’re in the 3:30 group, you are more than welcome to have your kids participate in the 4:30 class or stay and hang out to do activities, homework or socialize with friends in the back. It is really important to us that pick up times are convenient for you guys and work with your families schedule.
Graham Hill After School Clubs
Gentle reminder shuttle 2 does stop at Graham Hill at 4 PM to pick up after school club kids. They are more than welcome to participate in either group’s class.
